Dundalk double for Denis Hogan
Denis Hogan landed a double at Dundalk on Wednesday where Joey Sheridan and County Meath apprentice Robert Whearty rode his winners.
Sheridan partnered the Playground Syndicate-owned Jaafel to take the eight-furlong handicap. The four-year-old had plenty in hand as he beat Ado McGuinness’ Skontonovski by three lengths.
Whearty had earlier ridden his first winner for the Cloughjordan trainer when getting the Premier Racing Club-owned Royal Tribute home by half a length from the James McAuley-trained My Little Tip in the seven-furlong claiming race. The winner was later claimed by McAuley.
Mouse Morris won the two-mile handicap hurdle with the Ricky Doyle-ridden Bluebell Diva at Clonmel on Thursday.
Owned and bred by Margaret Casey, the strong favourite led at the fourth-last flight and readily saw off the challenge of the Philip Rothwell-trained Warm In Gorey by two and a quarter lengths.
Harry Kelly and Cian Quirke took the opportunity handicap hurdle with Hard Target. Owned by the Old Port Syndicate, the five-year-old was quickly clear after jumping the second last hurdle and he went right away to win by nine and a half lengths from the Philip Fenton-trained Lake Chad.
Carrick-On-Suir trainer Kevin Coleman gave punters and Seamie Heffernan the perfect start to the session at Dundalk on Friday as his odds-on favourite Catherine Of Siena won the opening five-furlong race in good style. Owned by Atomic Racing, the two-year-old made all the running to win by a length from the Kieran Cotter-trained Maggie McGrath, the first of three winners on the night for the veteran Kildare jockey.
Henry de Bromhead saddled a hugely impressive winner in the shape of Arctic Bresil which landed the two-mile one-furlong maiden hurdle at Cork on Sunday.
Ridden by Rachael Blackmore, the well-supported 11/8 chance, which sold for Stg£305,000 after finishing second in a Point-to-Point, made much of the running as he readily saw off the Willie Mullins-trained odds-on favourite Mercurey by five and a half lengths.
The pair were on the mark again thirty minutes later as Hiddenvalley Lake added to his Naas maiden hurdle success with an eight-length win in the Grade 3 Singletons Supervalu Stayers Novice Hurdle. The Robcour-owned 9/2 chance raced clear between the final two flights to win by eight lengths from the Gordon Elliott-trained Cool Survivor.
