Helen Powell and Aisling Meagher took part in the Borrisokane Town Parkrun

New Year's parkrun in Borrisokane

We had a very special weekend at Borrisokane Town parkrun, as we had a double weekend. Our normal Saturday parkun on New Year’s Eve was followed by a New Year’s Day special event on Sunday.

Borrisokane welcomed parkrunners from Dublin, Galway, Kildare, Mullingar, and as far afield as Melbourne. On Saturday, one of our regulars Geraldine Sullivan, from Ardcroney Stores, celebrated completing her 50th parkrun; congratulations, Geraldine.

The Henry family from Melbourne absolutely loved the park and raved about our selection of birds and fowl. We also had two first-time parkrunners in Helen Powell and Aisling Meagher.

On Sunday, lots of walkers and runners took to the park to kick-start 2023 in style. The sun broke through and welcomed in the New Year with one man, Frank McLoughlin driving down from Darndale in Dublin at 6.30am to make the start line. We also had visitors form Mullingar and Gearóid Keane from Celbridge parkrun. As Borrisokane was one of the few parkruns happening on January 1, some of the Knocknacree and Portumna parkrun regulars popped in to start the year off in style.

Parkrun is a free, timed 5k, walk, jog or run every Saturday morning at 9.30am. It is completely volunteer-led and would not be possible without these fantastic volunteers.
