Daryl is presented with Nenagh 800 Medal

Nenagh actor Daryl McCormack who has been nominated for the Rising Star Award at this year’s British Academy Film Awards was presented with a special medal when back visiting his home town last month.

The 30-year-old, who returned to Nenagh at Christmas to visit family, was presented with a Nenagh 800 medal by the local Municipal District authority in recognition of his contribution to the town and putting the area on the world map with his host of screen successes.

Darl recently won praise for his role in Good Luck to You, Leo Grande – which he starred in opposite Emma Thompson.

Daryl’s other credits also include the film Pixie, and TV shows Bad Sisters, Peaky Blinders and Fair City.

The Nenagh actor is up against Naomi Ackie, Sheila Atim, Aimee Lou Wood and Emma Mackey for the Rising Star Award in the BAFTAs. He has also received a second nomination in the Lead Actor category.

The EE Rising Star Award is voted for by the public, and the winner will be announced at the BAFTAs in London on Sunday, February 19. The Rising Star Award is the only category at the BAFTAs that is voted for by the public. You can cast your vote on the BAFTA website.

McCormack's Nenagh born mother Theresa said she and her family were all “so proud” of his achievements.

Tipperary TD Michael Lowry congratulated McCormack on his prestigious nomination. “We wish him every possible success. Tipperary will be flying the flag for this wonderful young actor,” said Deputy Lowry.

HOME VISIT

McCormack paid a visit to Nenagh Tourist Office just before Christmas, accompanied by his mother Theresa and his grandmother Maura O’ Gorman.

On the day he was presented with a ‘Nenagh 800’ medal in recognition of his achievements to date.

He posed for a portrait picture by photographer, Odhran Ducie, which will now be hung on the wall of the tourist office.

His portrait now joins those of many other illustrious Nenagh people who have made their name in their particular field and whose pictures adorn the walls of the Tourist Office.
