O’Dwyer forced to decommit from Tipp camogie squad

By Shane Brophy

The Tipperary senior camogie panel won’t have the services of Aussie Rules star Orla O’Dwyer after she was forced to pull out of the squad for the National League.

After being initially named in the league panel in early January, O’Dwyer’s name wasn’t included in the squad announced for last Saturday’s league opener against Galway, with manager Denis Kelly confirming that the Cashel King Cormacs clubwoman has returned to Australia after her club, Brisbane Lions, requested she return earlier than initially expected ahead of the new AFLW season.

It is a blow for Tipperary as O’Dwyer’s athleticism and physicality would have been a huge addition to the team in the midfield/half forward area. However, that the decision has been made before the campaign started ensures Tipp’s plans hadn’t been altered too much.

However, O’Dwyer’s decommitment has been off-set by the return to the panel of the experienced Ereena Fryday who, now living in Wexford, was unsure as if she would be able to commit for the coming season at the start of the year but has now been able to throw her lot in.
