Green Party representative Iva Pocock highlighted the matter.

Clough' sewage treatment: Pocock highlights concern with minister

On a recent visit to the Dáil, Nenagh area Green Party rep Iva Pocock raised the ongoing saga of Cloughjordan's inadequate sewage treatment capacity with Minister Eamon Ryan.

“At this time of a housing crisis it is highly regrettable that Cloughjordan's development is being hindered by a lack of wastewater treatment capacity,” said Iva. “I urged Minister Ryan to continue to raise the issue where possible with Irish Water and with his ministerial colleagues.

“I know Cloughjordan's plight has been raised over the years by local representatives. It's vital that this pressure is sustained and I urge everyone with Cloughjordan’s interest at heart to continue to raise our sewage problem with political representatives.

“It’s good to see the sale and renovation of vacant houses along the Main Street but it’s long past time that the tens of sites available for housebuilding, in the ecovillage in particular, can be availed of. There’s strong demand to live in Cloughjordan, and like many people struggling with multiple generations living in the one home, the need for housing is acute. That the provision of innovative solutions or an upgrade of Cloughjordan’s sewage plant cannot be expedited is extremely frustrating. I will continue to bring it up wherever and whenever possible.”
