Prevalence of cannabis sweets in Tipp

Cannabis 'jellies' or sweets containing the drug have become more prevalent in Tipperary, last week's meeting of the county Joint Policing Committee heard.

Cllr David Dunne said younger people are being targeted by those selling the sweets. He wanted the gardaí to "clamp-down" on the distribution of these drugs.

Chief Superintendent Colm O'Sullivan said the gardaí have made a number of detections of cannabis sweets over recent months and prosecutions are pending. The message needs to go out to children and teenagers that people are selling these drugs and the harm they can do, he said.
