A one-way traffic system is planned to be introduced in the heart of Nenagh. April 26 is the last day for public submissions on the plan proposed by the Nenagh Municipal District authority.

Wednesday, April 26, is the deadline for the public to make submissions on the new draft traffic management plan for Nenagh, which the introduction of a one-way system on the streets in the heart of the town.

The draft traffic calming measures mooted by Tipperary County Council are on display with submissions being accepted until later this month.

The plans take in Pearse Street, Mitchel Street, Emmet Place, Kickham Street and Silver Street. Under the proposals, a one-way traffic system flowing in a clockwise direction will be introduced for Pearse Street, Mitchel Street, Emmet Place and Kickham Street. The proposals will also result in a change to the bus stop layout on Kickham Street with one of them relocating to Pearse Street.

The traffic lights on Pearse Street will be removed while the direction of one-way traffic flow on Silver Street will be reversed.

Details of the proposals can been seen on the Tipperary County Council website and are also available for inspection at the Nenagh Municipal District Office on the Limerick Road.

DETAILS OF PLAN

The following are the details of the plan as set out by the council:

Pursuant to the provisions of Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act, 1994, as amended by Section 46 of the Public Transport Regulation Act 2009, Tipperary County Council hereby gives notice of its intention to carry out traffic calming measures on Pearse Street (R497), Mitchel Street (R873), Emmet Place (L1241), Kickham Street (R445) and Silver Street (R497), Nenagh.

The proposed works will consist of the following:

the removal of traffic signals, a mini-roundabout and pedestrian guardrail;

the provision of traffic islands, raised pedestrian crossings, landscaping and planting;

the modification of a bus stop on Kickham Street and the relocation of a bus stop from Kickham Street to Pearse Street.

The modification of existing pedestrian crossings and installation of new pedestrian crossings, traffic signs and road markings.

Junction tightening works, the raising and lowering of manholes and gullies as required and all associated site works.

Pearse Street, Mitchel Street, Emmet Place and Kickham Street will become one-way streets and the direction of one-way traffic flow on Silver Street will be reversed.

Documents in relation to the plan may be inspected during normal office hours, 9.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday up to Wednesday, April 26 inclusive (excluding weekends and Bank Holidays). Submissions regarding the proposal should be clearly marked ‘Section 38, Proposed Traffic Calming Measures on Pearse Street, Mitchel Street, Emmet Place, Kickham Street and Silver Street, Nenagh’.
