Tipp underage duo star for Ireland

Two North Tipperary underage soccer stars enjoyed successful tournaments with the Republic of Ireland over the past week.

Clodagh Daly lined out for the Under-16s who won the UEFA Development Tournament in Belgrade, Serbia.

They started out with an 8-2 win over Hungary before beating Slovenia in their second game before beating the hosts to win the tournament after their clash ended 2-2 before winning the penalty shoot-out 4-2.

Daly lined out in all three games, starting against Hungary and Serbia but coming off the bench against Slovenia.

Roscrea’s Brody Lee, who plays with Shamrock Rovers was part of the Republic of Ireland Under 15’s who took part in the Torneo Delle Nazioni tournament in Udine, Italy.

Lee was on the scoresheet in the 3-1 win over the Czech Republic and it was a sensational goal. The tricky Shamrock Rovers winger was put through down the left and without hesitation drove into the box. He pirouetted around the defender before striking the ball first time to beat the keeper at the near post - a goal befitting any stage.

Ireland followed it up with another 3-1 over Saudi Arabia with Lee sitting out this game before coming back into the side for the final group game against Austria with Lee providing the pinpoint cross for Michael Noonan to score the only goal of the game.

Ireland played hosts Italy in the final last Monday and emerged winners.
