Nenagh Hockey Club scoops Youth Development Award
There was great pride and excitement on Friday night as Nenagh Hockey Club were awarded the Youth Development award at the Munster Hockey Annual Awards Ceremony.
Hosted in Cork with the President of Hockey Ireland in attendance, the night included trophy and medal presentations to the provincial winners of the various leagues. Nenagh’s Under 16 team were awarded their cup and winners pins on the night. Coach Colin Stanley accepted the award on behalf on the team who had previously celebrated their win at the Club end of season night at the Abbey Court back in April.
The club then went on to win a Youth Development award which was presented by Munster Hockey President Michael Houghton. Nenagh HC received their award for excellence in their youth development and for the strong youth centric focus to the club. The Club which has grown year on year since re-establishing in 2019 was honoured due to the player focussed approach and general club culture of inclusion and fun in sport.
On receiving the award current Club Chairperson Olivia Burke said: “Nenagh Hockey Club is delighted with this award.
“Like most good clubs, the quality of the people involved in Nenagh HC is the real reason for the club’s success. We have a wealth of volunteers that are focussed on ensuring our young players learn the technical skills of hockey in a fun, inclusive environment. The players are at the heart of everything we do at Nenagh HC and that has created a fantastic culture in the club which is palpable.
“We continue to look at new and innovative ways of developing our players and ensuring that the club continues to flourish while we wait for a new hockey pitch to be developed”.
Nenagh Hockey Club, which currently plays at Nenagh College, finished their 2022/23 season at Easter. Mixed adult social hockey began last week and takes place every Thursday at Nenagh College.
