Tough draw for Nenagh Ormond in Munster Senior Cup
By Shane Brophy
If Nenagh Ormond are to get to a second successive Munster Senior Challenge Cup final, they will have to do it the hard way following the draw for the newly formatted Bank of Ireland Munster Senior Cup for 2023/2024.
In a change in format from straight knockout, the fourteen teams have been divided into four groups with each of the group winners advancing to the semi-finals. The groups have been seeded according to the finishing positions in the AIL with Nenagh drawn in a very tough group along with Cork Constitution, Shannon, and Highfield, all in divisions higher in the AIL.
Nenagh’s first game will be away to Shannon on Saturday 2nd September before travelling to Temple Hill to face Cork Con a week later before finishing at home to Highfield who they defeated in this year’s semi-final in New Ormond Park on September 16th.
Cashel have been drawn in group 2 along with powerhouses Garryowen, Young Munster and UCC, while Clonmel are in a three-team group along with Dolphin and Old Crescent. Group 4 is made up of UL Bohemian, Bruff, and Midleton.
