Cistercian College Roscrea is pleased to announce that former Tipperary player and coach, Tommy Dunne, will join the school’s hurling coaching team as Head Hurling Coach for the 2023 to 2024 season. He will oversee coaching for both junior and senior teams at the college.

In the blue and gold of Tipperary, he was honoured with one All-Ireland title as captain, two Munster titles, three National Hurling League titles and three All-Star awards.

Since then, Mr Dunne has gone on to distinguish himself as an All Ireland winning coach within the Tipperary minor and U21 teams before moving on to coach the Tipperary senior hurling team.

This appointment of Mr Dunne will be a great addition to the hurling programme at the college. In addition to rugby, hurling is one of the main sports played by students at Cistercian College. This year alone saw the CCR senior hurling team become North Leinster Champions having completed a season of exceptional hurling.

Speaking about his new role at the college, Mr Dunne said: “I am delighted to have taken up the role of senior and junior Hurling Coach in Cistercian College. I look forward to building a hurling programme that will develop the skills of both squads and create an enjoyable and challenging programme for the hurlers in the college.”

Cistercian College Roscrea was founded by the Cistercian monks of the Strict Observance (OCSO) at Mount Saint Joseph Abbey in 1905 and is located on the Abbey’s 600-acre campus on the Tipperary-Offaly border. It is now administered by a Board of Management under the patronage of the Abbot and Community of Mount Saint Joseph. It has a current enrolment of 250 boys.
