At the talk on Tradespersons Code of Conduct - Eddie Whelan, Anne Keevey, Mary McMahon, Doreen Roe and Trish Hassett, from ICPOP.

Informative talks for Age Friendly in Roscrea

For our July information session we were delighted to have physiotherapist, Trish Hassett, from ICPOP (Integrated Care Programme for Older Persons), which is based at the Hospital of the Assumption Campus in Thurles.

Trish spoke to the group about Vertigo and how to manage it. She explained how the condition manifests itself and coping mechanisms to live with it. She also spoke about tinnitus. The importance of regular exercise as we grow older is another topic that she focused on, in particular, strength and resistance to build muscle strength.

We also spoke to those attending about our ‘Tradespersons Code of Conduct’, which we are launching locally as part of our Age Friendly Business Recognition Programme. We have placed notices on the counters of local hardware businesses with a proposed standard that we hope tradespeople will follow when engaging with older people in particular, as well as their broader customer base. The basic tenets of the code include giving written quotes for proposed work, keeping appointments made, answering or returning calls, having appropriate insurance, giving receipts and respecting the older person and their property. We have small cards available here in the office with all the details of the code which will be handy as a prompt for you if you are asking a trades person to do a job for you.
