Another mural unveiled in Nenagh

A NEW mural on an old building in Sarsfield Street, Nenagh, has just been unveiled, bringing new colour and vibrancy to the locality.

The work by local artist Philip Ryan has been carried out on the property of Nenagh carpenter Noel Brophy.

What was formerly a rather drab entranceway to Mr Brophy’s site is now an eye-catching art piece that has delighted the owner.

“I had been thinking for ages about giving the place a bit of a facelift,” said Mr Brophy. “The front of the building was a bit tired and I wanted to do something a bit different with it.

“I happened to meet Philip Ryan one day and knowing he is an artist l asked him for some advice. It was he who suggested that it was a perfect spot for a mural.

“I thought it was a great idea. Philip produced a design sketch with all the tools of the carpentry trade in it. The design looked brilliant so I immediately gave him the go-ahead. It has turned out amazing.”

Mr Brophy said he suggested to Philip that he should try to do more murals around the town. “There is a mural planned by for Bank Place and he should definitely do a design for that.”

Mr Brophy said all the locals loved the new mural recently completed on his property. “People have been coming over to me chatting about it and making suggestions as to what might go on the wall being looked at for a mural in Bank Place.”

Mr Brophy said the mural on his building, which was a property of historical significance, had “brightened up the whole area”.

“My property in Sarsfield Street is one of the oldest in the town,” he revealed. “It was once known as ‘The Slate Yard’ because a tradesman once cut slates there.

“It has been a site of several different trades down through the decades, including my uncle, a coffin maker, who made pieces for coffins here.

“I’m just so pleased with the mural now. The place is so brightened up.”
