Fatal road accident in Midlands

Gardaí attended the scene of a fatal road traffic collision that occurred on Sunday evening at Mullaghatour, Belmont Co.Offaly.

The single vehicle collision happened on the R357 at approximately 6.45pm.

The motorcyclist, a man in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was later removed to Midlands Regional Hospital, Tullamore. A post-mortem will take place in due course.

The road remains closed this morning while Garda Forensic Collision Investigators conduct a technical examination of the scene. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area is asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
