LDYC regatta draws to a close

Lough Derg Yacht Club’s annual regatta in Dromineer came to a close on Saturday, August 20, under the management of the Commodore Declan Mulcahy and a vast range of volunteers both on and off the water.

This is the flagship rAegatta for the Shannon One Design (SOD) sailing class sailed exclusively on Lough Derg and Lough Rea. The Squib class of boats also raced this week for some serious silverware, 16 trophies in the SOD fleet and six trophies in the Squib fleet.

The six days of racing presented some calm and Storm Betty weather conditions to hamper sailing, but all 12 SOD Championship races were completed together with single-handed and Junior helm races.

The LDYC Perpetual Challenge Cup Championship was clearly won by Frank Guy with his crew Rachel Guy-Algeo and Tom Hare in SOD 142 ahead of second place Damian Moloney and his crew in SOD 75. The Silver Fleet Hazel Point Plate was won by brothers David and Turlough Adley and Malachy Ryan in SOD 146.

This is not the end of racing and sailing in LDYC Domineer for the year, so look at the web page www.ldyc.ie and talk to us about sailing on our wonderful Lough Derg.
