Duharra bounce back as young Nenagh find the going tough

CAMOGIE: FBD Insurance County Senior Championship Group 1

Burgess/Duharra 3-21

Nenagh Eire Og 0-8

Report: Liam Hogan in Kilcolman

The difference in standard was notable as Burgess/Duharra’s twenty-two point win over Nenagh Eire Og demonstrated in their second round County Senior Camogie Championship encounter on Sunday.

In simple terms, an experienced Burgess/Duharra side with great players such as Ciara McKeogh, Aishling Cremin, Jenny Grace, Amy Kennedy, Kaitlin O’Halloran and Caoimhe Maher on board against a very young Nenagh side that could do with a stint at intermediate level.

With Tipp senior Ciardha Maher absent through injury, it was her sister Caoimhe’s day as she scored 1-4 as her side romped up a 3-13 to 0-2 lead at half time.

Full forward Laura Reid had the first goal for the home side after five minutes which had for a 1-2 to nil advantage.

Caoimhe Maher fired home the second goal in the fourteenth minute as Burgess led 2-7 without reply.

The home side added four more points before Grace O’Brien had Nenagh’s first score in the 24th minute.

Burgess/Duharra had eight players on the scoreboard by then and things improved further as Kaitlin O’Halloran scored her team’s third goal.

They increased their lead by five inside the opening ten minutes of the second half. Caoimhe Maher was retired and for a period Burgess/Duharra took their foot off the gas as Nenagh scored six unanswered points with Grace O’Brien scoring five, including two from play, with one of her scores screaming inches over Ciara Houlihan’s crossbar.

At 3-17 to 0-8, Burgess re-grouped and the return of Amy Kennedy in the 45th minute (substituted in the first half) and she certainly took the game by storm as she landed two points as the home-side added four more points after her return.
