New solar farm plan for North Tipp

Tipperary Co Council has received another planning application for a large solar farm near Roscrea.

Soleire Renewables SPV Alpha 2 Limited has submitted an application for the installation of a 34.11-hectare (84.28 acres) solar farm at lands known as Brehony's Bog, within the townland of Monaincha, Roscrea. The proposed solar farm is to consist of a series of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels mounted on steel support structures and measure 2m in overall height.

Ancillary development includes 12 transformers, 106 pole-mounted CCTV cameras, 3.8km of fenceline, creation of new graded internal access tracks, and a temporary compound during the construction phase. The proposed solar farm is to operate over a 40-year period, after which it would be decommissioned.

The council received the application in August and has since marked it "incompleted".

Soleire Renewables SPV Alpha 2 Limited has made two separate applications in respect of previously permitted solar farms at Monaincha and at Leonards Bog, The Sheehys, Derrymore, both of which are under appeal.
