Maher forced to step away from Tipp senior hurling management

Padraic Maher has been forced to step away from the Tipperary senior hurling management team after just one season.

The September county committee meeting of Tipperary GAA was held virtually last Wednesday, September 27th and among the items on the agenda was the ratification of the 2024 team management teams in both hurling and football, with confirmation that the former Tipperary great and current Thurles Sarsfields manager won’t be involved dur to “unforeseen changes in his work circumstances”.

No replacement has been added to Liam Cahill’s management team which remains as Michael Bevans (Toomevara), Declan Laffan (Loughmore/Castleiney) & TJ Ryan (Clonoulty/Rossmore), with changes to the back-room team also expected.

Brendan Cummins remains as Under 20 manager with coach Fintan O’Connor and selector Tomas Costello (Cappawhite) but are joined by former Tipperary defender Paddy Stapleton (Borris-Ileigh) who replaces Shane Stapleton (Golden Kilfeacle) who has stepped away.

The minor management also remains unchanged for a fourth year with Drom & Inch’s

James Woodlock remaining as manager, along with coach Cormac McGrath (Ballinahinch), and selectors Conor O’Brien (Eire Og Annacarty), Willie Ryan (Toomevara), Brendan Ferris (Marlfield) & Ray Doyle (JK Brackens).

Football

The post of senior football manager remains unfilled although football committee chairperson Conor O’Dwyer said they are “in strong discussions” with a candidate for a position that has been vacant since David Power stepped down in June.

Niall Fitzgerald remains as Under 20 manager, joined by Paddy O’Flaherty (Portroe), Kevin Mulryan (JK Brackens), Cian Maher (Fethard), and Paddy O’Gorman (Cahir).

Michael Donnellan (Portroe) & Shane Hennessy (Loughmore/Castleiney) have been confirmed as joint-managers of the minor footballers. They were both selectors for the past two years under previous manager John McNamara, and step up into the lead role joined by selectors Damien McCormack, Shane Gavin, Tomas O’Donoghue, and James Farrelly.
