Kenyon Street archway to close

Plans for pedestrian-only area

Moves to close off the archway entrance in Keynon Street to motorised traffic entering Abbey Steet, Nenagh, are now being made by Tipperary County Council. Nenagh District Director Marcus O’Connor told a meeting of councillors that the council had over the years received several complaints about risks posed by vehicles to pedestrians using the narrow archway.

Responding to queries from Cllr Hughie McGrath, Mr O’Connor said it was proposed to make the archway a pedestrian-only area. Meanwhile, Mr O’Connor said construction of a new roundabout at the other end of Kenyon Street beside the entrance to the railway station was now almost complete. He thanked the business community for their co-operation as they had to endure disruption resulting in Well Road having to be closed for the duration of the works.

Councillors welcomed the fact that the works provide for a new entrance for articulated lorries entering Arrabawn Co-op. Prior to this the lorries entering the plant had to negotiate a tight junction into Stafford Street, which led to traffic congestion in the locality.
