Celebrate National Potato Day!
This Friday, October 6, is Bord Bia’s National Potato Day and a chance to celebrate the taste, versatility and nutritional benefits of potatoes! The Bord Bia campaign will highlight that potatoes have never been so convenient to make with a surge of inventive, easy-to-prepare and on-trend air fryer and slow cooker recipes that fit into every life stage and lifestyle. It will also affirm that potatoes remain one of the best value-for-money ingredients available and a must-have item in shopping carts.
This year, Bord Bia is working with the King and Queen of Air-fryer recipes in Ireland – Karol and Gina Daly – to get the nation excited about mealtimes with potatoes and to share some tasty, fun and easy air-fryer recipes. Last week Karol and Gina took to the streets to find out what Irish people think and it was clear that potatoes remain the nation's favourite vegetable!
Bord Bia Potato and Fresh Produce Manager, Lorcan Bourke, said: “Potatoes are Irelands most preferred and number one vegetable. This year’s National Potato Day campaign seeks to help home cooks to appreciate how potatoes fit in with modern convenient cooking equipment such as air fryers and slow cookers to deliver great taste. The popularity of air fryers in recent years is making cooking potatoes even quicker and so we are discovering new, fun ways to prepare potatoes that we wish to share with the public.
"With cost-of-living pressures facing many households, potatoes remain one of the best value-for-money ingredients which also pack a nutritional punch. Potatoes are naturally fat and gluten-free and are a good source of dietary fibre, Vitamins and important minerals like potassium.”
