U17 Soccer Comprehensive Win

Congratulations to our U17 soccer team in the First Round of the Munster Schools competition with a 5-1 victory over Thurles CBS.

A competitive game with Nenagh scoring a couple of goals late on, as Thurles pushed for the equaliser.

Goalscorers: Marcus O’Mahony (three), Daniel J Connolly and Dara O’Dwyer. Well done to all the team and their mentors Mr Tom Lanphier and Mr Seán Wade.

Harty Cup Campaign off to a good start

St Joseph's CBS Nenagh got their Harty Cup campaign off to a good start with a hard fought win over Charleville CBS in Meelick on Wednesday last. Nenagh got off to a bright start, racing into a three point lead. With conditions deteriorating, Charleville found their way into the game with a goal and a point without reply. Nenagh led by four points at half time.

Scores were hard come by in the second half and with ten minutes to play, Nenagh were only one point ahead. Up stepped Danny Quinn with a well taken goal in the last five minutes and this score proved vital.

Our next game is in two weeks’ time against Bandon, a win will ensure our place in the knockout stages. Well done, boys, and all their management team.

World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health Day is marked around the globe on October 10 each year. This year's theme was ‘Mental Health is a Universal Human Right’. The World Health Organisation believes this theme gives people an opportunity to ensure they are aware of their right to mental health and reminds us to ‘stand up for what's right, for ourselves and for others’.

Here in school, our First Years marked the day with a 4km walk around Nenagh. This provided a great opportunity for movement and to check in with classmates. On their return to school, the lads availed of fruit, juice, and a rest before the next class.

In the afternoon all students watched a piece from Niall ‘Bressie’ Breslin of The Blizzards. Niall discussed challenges he has experienced with his own mental health and he suggested simple strategies that can be used daily to promote positive mental health. This allowed for important class debates on a vital issue.

Perhaps the best part of the day for students was the announcement that there was no homework for that evening to mark World Mental Health Day. This provided the students with the chance to get out enjoy their hobbies and have a well-deserved break.

U19 Soccer Victorious Team

Congratulations to our U19 soccer team that were victorious against Coláiste Dún Iascaigh Cahir in a tightly-contested game, which finished on a scoreline of 2-1. The management team of Mr Tom Lanphier and Mr Seán Wade were very proud of the efforts made by the students. Well done to all the team and their mentors Mr Tom Lanphier and Mr Seán Wade.

Meanwhile, a First Years panel of players went to the second day of the Division A hurling competition in Dr Morris Park in Thurles.

First up was Templemore, with Nenagh CBS winning comfortably on a scoreline of 3-9 to 1-2 with the team demonstrating a solid performance in the back line and Oisín Hogan giving a superb performance with 1-6 in that game. The league standings placed Cashel and Nenagh at the top, so both teams played out a final. The game was a tense affair and went to extra time. A free in the dying stages of the game proved the decisive moment with captain Oisín Hogan slotting over the free to win the cup for Nenagh. The final score being 3-10 to 3-9

Well done on a superb victory, boys, the first of many trophies in Nenagh CBS colours, we hope. Thanks to their mentors Mr Paul Dolan and Mr David Hogan for all their hard work with the boys.
