Fast-paced comedy ‘Boeing Boeing’ at the arts centre next week

The Nenagh Players are all set for take off in Nenagh Arts Centre next week with their production of the fast-paced comedy ‘Boeing Boeing’.

Written by Marc Camoletti and translated by Beverly Cross and Francis Evans, this French farce about American architect Robert (Kevin Ryan) living in Paris and trying to keep his three air hostess fiancés apart is bound to have you pulling on your seat belt as he hits turbulence. All is going well for the archetypal cad - but, unknown to him, the advent of faster jet engines is going to set him up for a bumpy landing unless he can enlist the support of his best friend Bernard (Colin Dillon).

With punchlines and action landing and taking off faster than any Ryanair turnaround, Bernard is forced to wing it when the three hostesses all land at his apartment on the same day.

‘Boeing Boeing’ features a mixture of new faces and Players stalwarts, with Eimilie Dooley (Gabriella), who played a “very minimalist part in the jury” in last year’s ‘Witness for the Prosecution’, returns for her first major role. Eimilie, who developed an interest in acting out of boredom during lockdown, has also taken part in the rehearsed reading of ‘The Park Bench’ by Ashley Burgoyne and the sketch ‘Hitched’, during Heritage Week.

This is Caroline Morgan’s (Gretchen) second full-length play, her previous being ‘Witness for the Prosecution’ in which she played the devious Romaine Heilger. She made her Nenagh Players debut in the hilarious one-act play ‘The Lithium Waltz’, playing the role of Joanie the flirtatious patient in the asylum.

Maggie Smith (Bertha) has been a member of the Nenagh Players since 2016. She played the part of Maimie Flanagan in ‘The Field’ (2018); Nurse Ratched in ‘One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest’ (2019) and Janet McKensie in ‘Witness for the Prosecution’ (2022).

Relative newcomer Helen Kinsella (Gloria) joined the Nenagh Players in 2021. Her performances include one acts, dinner theatre, rehearsed readings, and last November’s production of ‘Witness for the Prosecution’ and Culture Night. She also took on her first directorial role this year, directing the rehearsed reading of ‘The Park Bench’ by Ashley Burgoyne.

This is Colin Dillon’s (Bernard) third production with the Nenagh Players, having already had roles in ‘One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest’ and ‘Brownbread’.

He has also performed in dinner theatre. Colin has been involved in Nenagh Choral Society for years, taking part in many of their productions.

Kevin Ryan (Robert) has taken part in numerous Nenagh Players productions over the past few years, most recently in the full-length production of ‘Witness for the Prosecution’ as Sir Wilfrid Robards. He has also taken part in one acts, dinner theatre and Heritage Week with the Players.

Seamus McCarthy, who joined the Players in 1981, makes his directorial debut with ‘Boeing Boeing’. He has performed in countless productions and he brings his many years of being out in front entertaining audiences with his perfect comedic timing to his new role.
