‘From little ripples come big waves’

A group of employees from LKQ Car Parts in Nenagh are taking on this year's Movember challenge.

The lads are growing moustaches for the month of November in order to raise funds and awareness for men's health.

Based out at Stereame Business Park, supplying car parts and accessories to both the motor trade and the general public, the seven lads decided this year to take part in the annual Movember campaign to try and raise both much-needed funds and - very importantly - awareness on men's cancer and also mental health.

“Seen as possibly, a predominantly male-orientated business we work in, and having read some of the statistics on the Movember website, we felt compelled to do our little bit to raise awareness and try get more fellas talking,” said LKQ employee James Sheehan, who previously completed the Movember challenge in 2017.

Men’s health is in crisis. Men are dying on average 4.5 years earlier than women, and for largely preventable reasons.

A growing number of men – around 10.8 million globally – are facing life with a prostate cancer diagnosis. Globally, testicular cancer is the most common cancer among young men.

And across the world, one man dies by suicide every minute of every day, with males accounting for 69% of all suicides.

Movember is uniquely placed to address this crisis on a global scale. They fund groundbreaking projects all over the world, engaging men where they are to understand what works best and accelerate change.

Mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer – we’re taking them all on.

Since 2003, Movember has funded more than 1,250 men’s health projects around the world, challenging the status quo, shaking up men’s health research and transforming the way health services reach and support men.

“We’re hoping that from little ripples come big waves,” said James.
