Minister's visit to Killaloe Coast Guard

On Thursday, November 9, Minister Jack Chambers, Minister of State at the Department of Transport, was welcomed to Killaloe Coast Guard unit’s base at the Pier Head by the local volunteers.

The minister was honouring a commitment he made to volunteers from the unit at the National Ploughing Championships in September. Volunteers had the opportunity to inform Minister Chambers of their busy schedule with 44 call-outs to date in 2023. He also saw, first hand, the inadequate conditions the volunteers endured at the Pier Head – poor toilet facilities; inadequate changing areas for male and female members; no showers or hot water on site; no facilities for having food/refreshments after long rescue/recovery missions; lack of secure indoor storage area for the unit’s vehicles area for our unit vehicles.

Following this visit, Killaloe Coast Guard unit members are hopeful that their concerns will be addressed.

Also present on Thursday night were Cathal Crowe TD, Senator Timmy Dooley, Councillor Tony O'Brien, Niall Ferns and Damian Kellaher.
