Pocock pleased with new Local Link route

Green Party representative for Nenagh and Lower Ormond, Iva Pocock, has welcomed the new 322 Local Link bus, which will serve Nenagh, Ballycommon, Dromineer, Puckane, Coolbawn, Ballinderry, Terryglass, Carrigahorig, Lorrha and Portumna. The service began on Monday, November 27.

“After much hard work by the Local Link team and with funding ensured by the Green Party in Government, I have no doubt that this service will make a big difference to people young and old living in and visiting Nenagh and the villages it serves,” said Ms Pocock.

“With a four times a day round trip service from Monday to Saturday, and three times on Sunday, this route will make the lake truly accessible by public transport for the first time.

“By running an early morning and an evening service the bus will help adults and young people getting to work or college. Good public transport is good for us all. It’s sociable if you fancy a chat and therefore good for one’s mental health, it’s great for building young people’s sense of independence and it’s a low carbon way to travel.

“This route will also be a boon for tourism and the efforts of Discover Lough Derg. It’s brilliant that when visitors come to Nenagh Tourist Office asking how to get to the lake, tourism officer Victoria Lee will now be able point them to the Local Link. And because there are multiple round trips each day they will be able to get off to explore one village before taking a later bus to continue their trip, and to give their custom to the restaurants and pubs along the route, with no worries about getting safely back to their lodgings.

“This new bus is a good news. I am delighted to see the Green Party’s commitment to rural public transport bearing fruit here in Nenagh and Lower Ormond.”
