Arrest made over Newport car thefts

Gardaí from Nenagh district have arrested and charged an individual in relation to a number of burglaries and thefts of cars reported in Newport over the last few weeks.

A search and arrest operation was put in place by members of the Detective Unit in Nenagh and local gardaí from Newport. On Thursday last, a search was carried out in the Newport area and a man was later arrested in Limerick.

This man has since been charged with three burglaries, two thefts of cars and one theft from a car; he has appeared before court.

Elsewhere, on Tuesday of last week, gardaí received a call in relation to a burglary in progress in the Benedine area, Nenagh. A male suspect was found on the property and he was arrested on suspicion of burglary. He was questioned and later charged to court with a burglary offence.

Gardaí are investigating a number of burglaries in the Roscrea area. Among these was a break-in to a business premises at Rosemary St last Saturday between 3am and 4.30am. A garda spokesperson described this burglary as a sophisticated operation and asked business owners across the county to be vigilant.

Gardaí are seeking public help in relation to a number of incidents that occurred at Cluain Mhuillean estate in Nenagh in the early hours of Thursday last. A shed was broken into and a number of tools were stolen. At around the same time, a number of cars in the estate were entered and items were stolen. Anyone who saw anything suspicious is asked to contact Nenagh Garda Station.
