Call for more youth and community workers in Tipperary
Adult Continuing Education (ACE) at University College Cork (UCC) and Knockanrawley Resource Centre have collaborated to deliver a two-year part-time Diploma in Youth and Community Work to those in Tipperary and the surrounding areas.
This programme is being delivered to address a serious need for Youth and Community Workers in the Tipperary area. The collaboration aims to deliver qualified Youth and Community Workers into the local community to support local organisations and initiatives.
Youth Work Ireland Tipperary and Knockanrawley Resource Centre would encourage local community workers, volunteers and those interested in the youth and community field to consider applying for the programme which will be delivered online one evening a week with two in-person Saturday sessions at Knockanrawley Resource Centre. In year two, students will have the opportunity to complete a placement to help them learn the practical skills needed to manage youth and community projects.
Donal Kelly, CEO of Youth Work Ireland Tipperary, said: “In today's rapidly changing world, the urgent need for dedicated Youth and Community Workers in Tipperary has never been more evident. This diploma aims to address this need head-on by providing accessible training and practical experience, empowering individuals to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people in Tipperary.”
Patricia McGrath, Programme Coordinator at ACE at UCC, added: “The need for skilled Youth and Community Workers who can foster positive social environments is key to building brighter futures for individuals and communities alike. Students studying on this programme will develop professional skills and gain a good understanding of theory that guides good practice. The modules are designed for students to develop multiple skills, including reflective practice, group work facilitation, strategic planning, research skills and report writing.”
To facilitate adult learners, the Diploma in Youth and Community Work is assessed through continuous assessment which includes reflective journals, essays, presentations and placement reflections. The course is delivered as a blended model to appeal to adult learners and help them manage their learning journey with their work-life balance. Accepted applicants will also be provided with UCC student cards which grant them access to the Boole Library and online resources as well as access to the Skills Centre which provides free coaching and workshops and sessions on student skills such as writing techniques, study skills, presentation skills and more.
