Things are going according to plan - Cahill
By Shane Brophy
Tipperary senior hurling manager Liam Cahill will confirm his panel for the remainder of the league and championship this week but ahead of that declared himself happy with the process of adding greater depth to his panel.
Speaking following last Saturday’s National League win over Westmeath, the Ballingarry clubman said developing players is an ongoing process and those that aren’t retained will still have a part to play in the years to come.
“We’ve been committed to making sure we don’t do anything rash by any player,” he said.
“We’ve really put the structures in place to make sure that we definitely leave nobody behind us. There’ll be a number of players that will have come on quite a bit with us this year but will definitely benefit from what they’ve done with us for next year. We’ve still a cohort of a young squad there.
“A lot of the newer fellas that were integrated into our training sessions have got a bit of game time during the National League and great learnings for them to go away now and improve for next year and see can they really stamp their authority on the team and the panel.”
Tipperary have a down week before building up to their round 4 clash with Limerick on Saturday week which will provide the ideal acid test of where Tipp are at with the All-Ireland champions baring their teeth with a comfortable win over Dublin at Croke Park last Saturday.
Venue Change for Footballers
The wet autumn and winter has taken its toll on the pitch at FBD Semple Stadium and following last weekend’s games, including the senior footballers loss to Laois on Sunday, the decision has been taken to move next Sunday’s National Football League game against Waterford from the Thurles venue to Canon Hayes Park in Bansha.
The enclosed stands and terracing at Semple Stadium makes it difficult for sunlight to get at some parts of the ground, and with also more heat needed, an upturn in the weather would certainly be welcome at the venue.
Schools
Bansha will be a busy venue this weekend as on Saturday it will host the Croke Cup semi-final between St Kieran’s College Kilkenny and Ardscoil Ris from Limerick, but locally the focus will be on the other semi-final where Harty Cup champions Nenagh CBS take on Connacht kingpins St Raphael’s College Loughrea in Tulla, Co. Clare at 2.00pm. Preview on page 73.
