FG candidate launches her campaign

A LARGE crowd of supporters turned out in J Ryan’s pub, Carney, Nenagh, for the launch of the election campaign of the new Fine Gael candidate in the Nenagh Municipal District, Eleanor Maher.

Ms Maher addressed the gathering, saying that she was humbled and honoured to see such a turnout. She thanked the MEP Seán Kelly for making the distance from his home in Kerry to support her and thanked Councillor Ger Darcy, the Cathaoirleach of Tipperary County Council, for his mentorship.

She also thanked her proposer Ger Cronin, Margaret Mary O' Dwyer and Sadie Slingsby for all their support to date.

As a first-time candidate running for Fine Gael, she mentioned that people had stopped her on the streets of Nenagh and in her locality to wish her well. Others had asked why she was undertaking such a challenge.

“If we do not have local representation, then who will voice our concerns and opinions in getting the services we so deserve in our communities,” she told them.

Ms Maher said local election date on  June 7 will approach soon and there were 17,000 registered voters stretching from Redwood to Ballymackey, Cloughjordan to Monsea whose support she was seeking.

“I endeavour to meet as many on the doors as possible with the help of my team, and I am looking forward to a successful campaign,” she told the gathering.

At the event, Councillor Darcy spoke about Ms Maher’s experience in managing local group water schemes and her awareness of how to engage with the county council staff. He said Ms Maher would bring invaluable insights into addressing community needs and ensure effective representation for residents and businesses in the locality.
