All set for Newport parade
Newport's St Patrick's Day Parade is taking place on this Saturday afternoon, the eve of the national holiday.
For the first time, since the parade was first held 11 years ago, the event moves to mid-afternoon and will be slotted in neatly to conclude in time for rugby enthusiasts looking forward to the Ireland v Scotland crucial match in the Six Nations Championship for Ireland to retain the championship with kick off at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin at 4.45pm.
Assembly point for participants is the Centra Supermarket on the Limerick Road from where the parade will move off from at 3pm sharp travelling through the town before returning to the viewing stand at Main Street, Newport for announcement of the winners in the different categories and presentation of the awards.
