Funding for lakeside amenity at Castlelough

Local Fianna Fáil TD Jackie Cahill has welcomed funding of €208,680 to develop and enhance seven outdoor recreation projects in Tipperary, including a lakeside amenity at Castlelough on the shores of Lough Derg.

Castlelough Amenity Area Improvement Works and Upper Lough Derg Tranquility Area are each set to benefit from €30,000. The investment, under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS), will be key to enhancing  mountain trails, forest walks, cycleways, rivers, lakes and beaches across the county. It will also provide a boost to the local economy by attracting more visitors to our rural communities.

Deputy Cahill said: “The facilities and amenities that the Government are delivering under this scheme are making a real difference in communities right across Tipperary.

“I'm delighted to see funding of €30,000 to improve the Castlelough amenity area and another €30,000 for the Upper Lough Derg tranquility area. These are beautiful spots that deserve the investment. Not only will this investment benefit the health and well-being of people of all ages, it is also hugely important in terms of attracting visitors to our towns and villages. These amenities are here for us all to enjoy. I would encourage everyone who can to get out and about and make the most of what our countryside has to offer.”

Fianna Fáil councillor John Carroll has also welcomed the announcement of these grants for Lough Derg amenity areas.
