PREMIER LEAGUE

Nenagh AFC 5-0 Carew Park

Four successive league victories have lifted Nenagh AFC into mid-table in the Limerick Premier League, well clear of the relegation zone.

Their most recent success was on Thursday evening when they overran Carew Park, scoring five times without reply.

Nenagh were well on top throughout and took the lead midway through the first half when a goal-bound shot by Cillian Scully was handled on the line and from the resultant spot kick, Ryan Gilmartin tucked the ball home. Despite dominating possession, Nenagh failed to add to their tally.

Emerging after the restart, the home side began to move the ball a lot quicker and that produced the desired result as the Blues scored four times in a fifteen-minute spell.

A blazing run by Cillian Scully allowed Saeed Ryan to tap home from two yards out to make it 2-0 and minutes later Ryan returned the favour to allow Scully the easiest of chances to score from a yard out.

Soon after it was 4-0 when three substitutes combined, Daire Hogan played a super ball through to Dan O’Meara who unselfishly squared for Kieran O’Brien to score.

The best goal was kept until last when left back Lee Mowat received the ball forty yards from goal, cut inside and hammered the ball into the far top corner to complete a good night’s work.

Nenagh AFC: Aaron Savage; Lee Mowatt, Eoin Coffey, Kieran Barr, Colm Hayden, Conor McCormack, Cillian Scully, Alan Sheehan, Ryan Gilmartin, Eamon White, Saeed Ryan. Subs: Marcin KolkorsT, Diarmuid Fitzpatrick, Kieran O'Brien

Lower Leagues

In Division 1B, Newport Town ‘B’ recorded a 3-1 success at Glenview Rangers. Jake McNamee obliged for the home side but a double from Conor Brett and an own goal gave Newport the points.

There was a huge shock in the Division 2B Cup where Newport Town ‘C’, mired at the foot of the table and without a win all season, dumped high flying Brazuca United 5-4. Adam Power was the Newport hero with four goals while Eoin McLoughlin was also on the mark.

In Division 3B, Lough Derg returned to the top of the table following an exciting 6-4 win at Newtown Rovers on Thursday. Dan Fogarty scored four times for the Tipperary side while James Frahill and Cian McAuley made up the winners tally.

In the Youths League, goals from Darragh Galvin, Adam Power, Ciaran Carey and Oisin O Cinneide saw Newport past Mungret Regional on a 4-1 scoreline in the first division, while in division 2, Daniel Connolly and Dan Zamotsnyy were on the mark for Nenagh AFC but they fell to a surprise defeat to Aisling Annacotty ‘B’.
