Full House for Under 20 Final

A capacity 26,000 attendance is expected at UPMC Nowlan Park in Kilkenny for this Saturday’s o’neills.com All-Ireland Under 20 Hurling Final between Tipperary and Offaly.

The demand for tickets was such that the ticketmaster website crashed not long after the online sale of tickets began on Monday at 2.30pm with all of their allocation of tickets, rumoured to be around 20,000, were sold out by the evening.

Tipperary GAA secured around 5,000 tickets for their players/officials and supporters which were distributed through the clubs, with most already reporting that they have sold out so there are unlikely to be any returns later this week.

The demand from both counties is such that the choice of venue has been questioned with the limited capacity, but Nowlan Park was selected to host the final earlier in the year, even if Kilkenny qualified, to mark the centenary of the death of James Nowlan, the longest serving President in the GAA.

As well as the capacity, there were further concerns over the venue considering the poor state of a portion of the pitch during last Sunday’s Leinster Championship game between Kilkenny and Wexford, which was damaged following the Bruce Springsteen concert two weeks ago.
