Newport atheltes honoured

Eleven young athletes have been recognised for their superior performances at Munster level during the past year competing on relay teams and in pairs events.

The season was one during which members of Newport Athletic Club continued to display their superiority across a wide spread of events in track and field athletics throughout a span of age groups.

The eleven athletes have been presented with medals by Newport AC in recognition of their performances at Munster level in 2023.

The U11 4 x 200m Relay team of George O'Brien, Olly Moloney, Rory Coleman and Aaron Savage had a phenomenal performance in Munster Indoors, where their lightning speed and excellent baton changes contributed to securing Munster bronze.

The Girls U9 Turbo Javelin Pair of Ava Horgan and Eabha Malone, competing in their first Munster athletics event, came home with silver medals and qualified for the national finals, emerging as young athletes with great potential for the future.

Having joined the club in 2023, Evan Savage and Zack O'Mahony went on to have a phenomenal day at the Munster Pairs winning three Munster medals, a combination of silver and bronze for their individual and joint performances.

The Boys U11 Pairs, Fred Morrissey and Aaron Savage won Munster silver medals for the second consecutive season and only narrowly missed out of bringing home a national title.

The club’s U16 4x500m XC Relay team of Fionn Griffin, Leah Molloy, Leah Berry and Colm Ryan became a force to reckon with during the season.

Having stormed home with their gold medals from the county, they added bronze at Munster and showed fantastic determination and team work throughout.
