Callout for volunteers

Would you like to make a difference and support and influence a valuable community facility?

Do you have an interest in history and heritage?

At the Thomas MacDonagh Museum in Cloughjordan, we are expanding our pool of volunteers to ensure the continuing success of this popular and respected facility.

Curator Tori McMorran says “we are enjoying a busy year of events, including classes, workshops, arts and culture events, not forgetting our signature Hedge School in September, which attracts speakers and participants nationally and internationally. Volunteers are a valued and integral part of our ability to offer this exciting and varied programme.”

We are now looking for volunteers in the following roles:

Visitor Services

The Visitor Services Volunteer creates a friendly and welcoming environment in the Museum by meeting and greeting visitors and explaining what’s on offer. You may be responsible for opening the museum, working at reception and managing bookings and sales. You may also be interested in helping out with group tours or other daytime or evening events. While previous experience in customer service and an interest in history and local heritage is an advantage, it’s not essential as full training will be given. What we mostly want is a friendly face!

You can expect to be invited to cover one or two two-hour shifts a month, and to help out at occasional events.

Management Team

The Management Team is responsible for decisions about the day-to day operations of the museum, and specific tasks as undertaken according to your specific skill set.

We have a particular requirement at present for education, facilities management and staff/volunteer management, but welcome other disciplines, such as business / retail, event management or PR. The management committee is guided by and reports to the Board of Directors.

You can expect to attend a management meeting once every four to six weeks, and to be available to support your own responsibilities or projects.

All volunteers are first on the list for invites to events and activities, including volunteer meetups.
