Top half finish for NTSFL Girls in Gaynor Cup

North Tipperary finished a creditable eleventh out of 27 leagues in the annual Gaynor Cup in the University of Limerick last week.

This is the biggest under 14 girls tournament in the country as teams from each of the schoolchildren’s leagues in the country get together for a jamboree of soccer.

Tipperary started out with a 1-0 defeat to Wexford with player of the match being Emma Neary.

In game 2, North Tipperary claimed the county bragging rights with a convincing 4-0 win over South Tipp with goals from Charlotte Deegan, Emma Neary, Zoe Nash, and Sasha O’Keeffe. Joint players of the match were Addy Feehan and Zoe Nash.

Tipperary finished second in group and entered the Bowl section (2nd tier) where they played Donegal in a quarter final and won 1-0 with the goal coming from Zoe Nash. Player of the match was Kayleigh Delaney.

In the semi-final, North Tipperary lost 2-0 to Cork with Addy Feehan producing another player of the match performance.

North Tipperary’s final game was against Carlow where a Charlotte Deegan goal was the winner to see them finish in eleventh place overall.

Emma Neary and Kayleigh Delaney were voted the Players Player of the Tournament and Coaches Player of the Tournament respectively while the Sportmanship awards were awarded to Knigh United duo Josephine and Ellen Meany.
