Callout for Killaloe Coast Guard
On Monday, June 3, emergency services were alerted at 4pm to a woman on board a cruiser near the Two-Mile-Gate after she sustained a serious hand injury.
The occupants of the boat raised the alarm themselves and continued towards Killaloe to meet emergency services. Watch officers at the Irish Coast Guard’s marine rescue sub centre in Kerry mounted a rescue operation.
The Killaloe unit of the Coast Guard was alerted along with the National Ambulance Service and the Killaloe team, having launched their boat from the Pier Head, reached the scene by 4.15pm. After locating the vessel, a Coast Guard crew member was transferred to the cruiser to assess the casualty and administer first aid.
The boat was then escorted back to the Coast Guard base in Killaloe where shore team members and ambulance paramedics were waiting to take the patient into their care. She was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.
