MacGowan mural for Nenagh

The May meeting of Nenagh Municipal District was provided with the following update about the proposal to create a mural of the late Shane MacGowan at Emmet Place, Nenagh:

“We invited a number of companies in the region to provide a quotation to manage the process on our behalf. It is not our practice to engage directly with artists for such projects. The appointed company would manage the process, including bringing forward a selection of professional artists with relevant experience for consideration.

“In this case, experience in the provision of murals that incorporate portraiture would be crucial. Capturing an image in a painting is not necessarily the same as doing so on a mural – there are differences in terms of the scale and the materials.

“It has been our experience that these companies have the expertise and the professional artists on their books, so that they are best placed to match the artists with the commission. The successful company will then recommend to us artists for consideration based on their portfolio.

“We have received three tenders and will be moving forward to assess same in the near future. An assessment panel with appropriate expertise and competency has been selected.”
