The Nenagh Classic Car Club held its eighth annual charity drive event on Saturday, June 1. The club event, which was rebranded Loughderg100 last year, has really grown from strength to strength with over 100 cars taking part this year.
The day started off at 11am with a static car show at CareyGlass where we saw a broad variety of vehicles on display. The car park area in front of the large CareyGlass premises was full to capacity at 11.30am on Saturday morning with vehicles ranging from E-Type Jaguars to Toyota Supras.
The display created a great spectacle and attracted many passersby to stop and look as it put smiles on the faces of both young and old. The many colours, engine noises and smell of petrol created an atmosphere of great delight for the many car enthusiasts that were there and for many others to see the selection of vehicles from the decades made for a most pleasant trip down memory lane as memories of days gone by, past family cars from their childhoods and indeed memories of their first car all struck a chord with the large gathering of onlookers on Saturday morning.
The cars departed Carey Glass just after 1pm and drove on the ever-beautiful scenic drive around Lough Derg heading through Portumna and finishing at Clairsford Park in Killaloe.
The event was organised by the Nenagh Classic Car Club - LoughDerg100 committee led by event Chairperson John Joe Lewis. John Joe put in a huge amount of work into this event to ensure it ran like clockwork and it goes without saying the event was a massive success. The chosen charity for this year’s event was the Childrens Grief Centre and we thank all those who donated generously to this very worth cause. A total of €2,491 was raised. We would like to extend our thank you to everyone that supported this years event, CareyGlass, event sponsor, Clare County Council and to An Garda Síochána for their assistance and help.
As we thank our event Chairperson John Joe Lewis for his sterling effort, we are already looking forward to seeing everyone again for Loughderg100 2025!
