Garrykennedy's community festival

Since 2013, the Garrykennedy Festival has been a beloved annual tradition, offering a day of fun and community spirit in a stunning rural setting.

This year, the festival, hosted by Maura Boyle and the Boyle family from Larkin’s, Garrykennedy, promises to be better than ever. Mark your calendars for Saturday, August 10, starting at 11am sharp!

The festivities will kick off with a 5K and 10K fun run or walk, providing an opportunity for participants of all ages and fitness levels to enjoy the beautiful scenery around Portroe and the surrounding lake areas. Registration takes place at Larkin’s, Garrykennedy (entrance through the back gate) from 9am to 10.30am. To ensure a smooth start, early arrival is recommended. Alternatively, participants can register via the Arra Rovers app, available for download from the Play Store.

The route will be well signposted with marshalls and drinking water at every turn-off, to direct all participants. Both races begin just outside the picturesque Garrykennedy village. Participants will be chip-timed by Premier Timing, kindly sponsored as usual by Duggan Brothers Builders, Templemore.

Registration fees are €20 per adult and €5 per child under 13. There will be prizes for the first lady and first gent home in both races with trophies provided for the 10k winners. Every participant will receive a ticket for a delicious post-race buffet at Larkin’s, Garrykennedy, a perfect way to refuel and celebrate.

But the fun doesn’t stop with the races! This year's festival places a special emphasis on family fun. Children can enjoy a bouncy castle, face painting, and various games, while adults can test their skills in an exciting egg toss competition at 4pm. With plenty of activities for everyone, it's a day not to be missed.

Come support our local football club and create lasting memories on the beautiful shores of Lough Derg. The Garrykennedy Festival is a fantastic rural initiative that brings our communities together. We look forward to seeing you there!
