Count is Trendy with treble of Horse Show successes

By Shane Brophy

A young horse champion at the recent North Tipp Agricultural Show, continued his winning ways when he lifted the Sir Anthony Maude Cup and the Pembroke Cup on the hallowed turf of the Royal Dublin Society (RDS) at the recent Dublin Horse Show.

Owned and bred by John Nash from Gort, Co. Galway, the three-year-old gelding named Count Trendy is by the prolific sire Future Trend.

Well known horse producer, Michael Lyons got the horse the month previously and targeted the Nenagh Show as its first run before the big showdown in Dublin.

Count Trendy first won a middle heavyweight class before going on to be crowned three-year-old champion of the show and then on Friday he won the prestigious Pembroke Cup for owner bred winners.

The Birdhill based Lyons is synonymous with RDS winners having won the Supreme Championship in 2022 and the Reserve Supreme and Traditional Irish Cup in 2019, along with the four All Ireland titles.

Having been on the Irish Show judges panel for a number of years, Michael Lyons is also a senior judge on the British Horse Association panel, which saw him selected to judge The Royal Windsor Horse Show earlier this year, the first Tipperary man ever to do so, and one of a very small number of Irish people to officiate at the Royal fixture in its history.
