Intermediate Camogie Championship Round-Up

Moneygall 3-8 Newport-Ballinahinch 2-4

Moneygall had seven points to spare over Newport/Ballinahinch in the first of the County Intermediate Camogie Championship quarter finals in Moneygall on Saturday afternoon.

Shauna Curtin had Newport’s first half goal while Edwina King goaled for Moneygall just before the break to give them a 1-6 to 1-3 lead at half time.

An early second half goal from Emma Flanagan meant the sides were level before Mairead Teehan responded with a well-taken goal to give last year’s eaten finalists the advantage.

With the clock ticking down Caitlyn Treacy wrapped up the result with Moneygall’s third goal and they marched onto a county semi-final thanks to a seven point victory.

Moycarkey/Borris 0-23 Toomevara 2-8

Sarah Corcoran led the way for Moycarkey/Borris in their win over Toomevara in the quarter final in Littleton on Saturday evening.

Eight points from play on top of eight converted frees was phenomenal scoring once again from the Tipperary minor captain in a sixteen point haul.

Kate Ralph also impressed for the 2023 Junior ‘A’ champions with four points from play while Maria Kinane was very solid throughout the hour in defence.

Toomevara worked hard throughout but missed too many scoring chances as they found themselves down seven points at half time.

They came out fighting in the second half with both Éimhear Troy and Eileen Gleeson finding the back of the net. But it wasn't enough against a very strong Moycarkey/Borris team as they ran out comfortable winners.

Cahir 2-10 Nenagh Eire Og 1-6

Cahir are through to a county semi-final after a hard fought victory over Nenagh Eire Og in Duneske on Saturday evening.

A slow start by Nenagh Éire Óg saw Cahir race into a 1-4 to 0-1 lead after ten minutes, Cahir’s goal coming from the ever reliable Carol Casey. Nenagh though finished the half strong. A long-range free from Zoey Gratton which was deflected into the net was followed by some great points to make it 1-5 each at half time.

However, playing into a stiff breeze in the second half Nenagh began to struggle and ran out of scoring options while Cahir’s Rosin Howard continued to cause trouble for the Nenagh defence as she finished with seven points in total. Aoife Corcoran, Sara Finnane and Emma Buckley were also impressive for the victors.

It was a busy week for Nenagh Eire Og as they played Toomevara in the final re-fixed group match on Tuesday recording their first championship win in three years. The win lifted the Nenagh spirits, and they had a quick four-day turnaround for the quarter final against Cahir.

The fourth quarter final between Boherlahan-Dualla and Kilruane MacDonaghs was postponed and will be refixed for next weekend with the semi-finals scheduled for 28-29 September.
