Ballina 1-4
Lorrha overcame Ballina in the County Under 16 ‘C’ (12-a-side) final in Portroe last Wednesday.
The first half was a tightly contested game with some excellent skilful camogie. Both teams were evenly matched and only two points separated the sides at the break with Lorrha leading 1-4 to 1-2. Leah Delaney scored Lorrha’s first half goal while Aoibhinn Kiely raised a green flag for Ballina.
In the second half, Lorrha lifted their game with some excellent play from Lexie Pyke and Kayleigh Ryan, while in defence there was some super defending by Leah Delaney, Thia Houlihan and Emma Kennedy.
Both goalies Julie Bourke and Ballina’s Ola Wasylik were kept busy and worked hard keeping out further shots from hitting the net.
Ballina never gave up and chased down every ball with some excellent defending from Sarah O’Neill, Clara Coughlan and Emer Gilmartin.
The midfield pairing of Emma Neary, Maria Gallagher and Marianna O’Connor worked tirelessly through the lines.
Saoirse McLoughlin always looked like a threat when in possession of the ball but unfortunately had to be subbed at halftime due to an injury.
Lorrha were excellent at taking their points scoring seven points in the second half to Ballina’s two with some excellent play from Ella O’Meara, Sophie Houlihan and Ava Delaney while Moya Duffy and Grace Broderick were solid in the back line.
An excellent game of camogie from both teams the final score didn’t reflect the intensity of the match with Ballina no doubt regretting some goal chances.
In the end though Lorrha were deserving winners and it was their supporters who were celebrating a victory at the final whistle.
