Progress on plans for centre of excellence in Nenagh

Progress on a plan by Tipperary County Council to develop a Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Development at Martyrs Road, Nenagh, was reported at the September meeting of the Nenagh Municipal District.

District Administrator Rosemary Joyce said an integrated design team to drive the project forward had been set up.

Local company Abbey Machinery owned lands on which it was proposed to locate the new centre and the council had an agreement with the company to purchase the land.

State funding has been provided in support of the project and future tenants for the centre included the North Tipperary Development Company and Tipperary Energy Agency. The University of Shannon also had an interest.

Tipperary County Council has plans to make the centre of excellence the signature building in a much wider project that would see the Martyrs Road area become a new modern urban core, renewing a much neglected area of the town.
