Works planned for lakeside villages of Dromineer and Garrykennedy

There was good news for the Lough Derg side villages of Dromineer and Garrykennedy at the September meeting of the Nenagh Municipal District.

District Administrator Rosemary Joyce said a new waterside amenity was going to be constructed in Dromineer. The old toilet block in the village was due to be demolished at the end of September to make way for the new facility. Temporary toilets would be put in pending the works.

Councillors were told earlier this year that the plan for Dromineer is to develop a new water sports activity centre. The single-storey 12m x 5m centre will provide hot showers, changing and toilet facilities along with secure storage, induction spaces, equipment washdown facility and orientation points.

The new centre is set to cater for the significant increase in people enjoying outdoor water-based activities such as kayaking, paddle-boarding and open water swimming.

In 2021 Dromineer was among 22 locations around the country to be included in a €19 million water-based activities plan.

Ms Joyce said the council also had plans to upgrade the inner harbour in Garrykennedy and a design scheme would be drawn up.
