Fundraising campaign for little Amber

Four-year-old was seriously injured in road accident

A fundraising campaign is underway in support of the family of a local girl who was seriously injured in a road accident in Killoscully last month.

Four-year-old Amber Healy was hospitalised following a tragic accident on September 12. She had just started school at Boher NS.

For a heart-wrenching initial period, Amber's parents Gerard and Vivian, and her four siblings, feared the worst. She has, however, pulled through and began a long journey of recovery.

Killoscully neighbour Karyn McCaffrey said last week that Amber remains in Temple Street children's hospital and will be there for a long time to come. Her parents have been with her 24/7. While fortunate to survive the accident, Karyn said that Amber will require many months of extensive rehabilitation.

She decided to set up a GoFundMe page to assist the family with their living and travel expenses in Dublin. “Any contribution, big or small, will help ease the burden during this incredibly difficult time,” Karyn said on the GoFundMe page.

“All funds will go directly to Amber’s parents, Vivian and Ger, to help with their ongoing and upcoming expenses. Any funds not used in Amber’s care will be donated by the family to Temple Street hospital.”

A number of fundraising events have also been organised in the locality, beginning this Saturday night, October 12, with a table quiz at Bonnán Buí. The quiz was initially planned as a fundraiser for the Children's Grief Centre, and it has since been decided that 50% of the proceeds will be donated to the parents of Amber Healy. €50 for a table of five at the quiz, which will commence at 9pm.

Looking ahead, the Dublin City Ramblers are performing at the Castle Oaks Hotel in Castleconnell on Saturday, November 2. A percentage of the ticket sales will also be donated to Amber's family.

Boher NS has been very supportive of the family and has another fundraising event in planning. Karyn said the family are very appreciative of all the goodwill and support they have received from the community so far on this arduous journey.
