Borrisoleigh hosts Agri Colleges 7s Tournament

Five of the country’s agricultural colleges descended on Borrisoleigh last week to take part in a seven-a-side hurling and camogie tournament.

In glorious autumn sunshine, agricultural colleges from teams from Gurteen (Tipperary), Pallaskenry (Limerick), Mountbellew (Galway), Kildalton (Kilkenny) and Clonakilty (Cork) battled it out with exceptional skill on display.

The day signalled the start of the GAA season for the agricultural colleges with a seven-a-side football tournament and 15-a-side hurling and football round robin championships yet to be played.

Plenty of clubs from Tipperary and Offaly were represented, including Lorrha, Silvermines, Thurles, Moyne-Templetuohy, Carrig & Riverstown, St Rynagh’s and Drumcullen.

The games are an important feature of the college year with the opportunity for players to meet and chat with students from all over the country.

Mountbellew were crowned overall winners, while Lorrha man Darragh Guinan was named player of the tournament. Darragh is currently studying at the Salesian Agricultural College in Pallaskenry.
