Successful walking festival in North Tipp

Camino Society of Ireland weekend trip to Nenagh

Aonach ar Siúl, in conjunction with the Camino Society of Ireland, held a fantastic weekend of walks with over 100 participants representing members of the Camino Society from all over the country and our own local club members and friends on four walks on October 5 and 6.

Unfortunately, weather was not in our favour on the Saturday, but we persevered and took on Glencaloo and the Silvermines. Sunday was a fabulous day and we travelled to the Arra Mountains for a four-hour hike and Coum Woods for a more leisurely two-hour walk.

Feedback from one of our visitors included, “Your walking group was light-hearted and cheerful at all times in all weathers and the group leaders gave us extra special treatment”.

We would like to express a massive thanks to Deirdre and the staff of A Sportsman’s Dream, Nenagh, for the promotion of our weekend and sponsorship of two pairs of Merrell hiking boots, which were won by Phil and Donie.

This event would not have been a success without the help and support of the Camino Society and the Members of Aonach ar Siúl.

Knockbeha Loop Walk Recap

Last Thursday, October 10, the club enjoyed its final ‘Last of the Summer Wine Walk’ of the season. This time, the group took on the scenic Knockbeha Loop, a 12km trek across mixed terrain. With strong walking shoes, the group tackled the varied paths, completing the walk in approximately three hours. Participants left from Scariff Church, where they started the loop. The day was a delightful success, offering breathtaking views and refreshing autumn air - a fitting farewell to the summer walks.

Upcoming Walk: Moylussa

Join us for the next ‘Last of the Wine Hike’ on Thursday, October 17. We will explore Moylussa, a challenging trail with steep ascents and some sections on boardwalk.

This three-hour hike requires hiking boots and a good level of fitness. It's a great opportunity to test your endurance while enjoying stunning views of Lough Derg.

The group will meet at the car park near the café at Two Mile Gate, Killaloe, at 10am. If carpooling from Nenagh, meet at Costa at 9.20am. Registration is required by Wednesday, October 16.

The Nenagh Walking Club offers more than just walks; it's a chance to be part of a community that appreciates nature and physical activity. For those interested in joining future walks or seeking more information about the club, please contact us at aonacharsiul@gmail.com.

Remember, all you need is a love for the outdoors, a reasonable level of fitness, and a pair of hiking boots.
