Two more County Camogie Finals this Saturday

By Geraldine Kinane PRO

This Saturday attention turns to the FBD Insurance Junior A and Junior B finals as another double header awaits in the County Camogie Grounds in the Ragg.

Junior ‘B’ Final

Moyle Rovers v Cashel King Cormacs @ 12.30pm

Twelve months ago, it took a replay to finally separate Gortnahoe/Glengoole and Moyle Rovers in the Junior ‘B’ decider after two highly entertaining games.

Moyle Rovers have been on a mission since to get back to this stage. They had a big win over Roscrea in their semi-final, and the South side will be many people’s favourites on Saturday to go one step further than last year.

Standing in their way is a Cashel King Cormacs side that have also impressed all year. They defeated a very good Clonoulty/Rossmore team in the semi-final. The team is captained by Grace O’Dwyer and includes key players such as Ellie Butler, Jill Shanahan, Chloe Coleman, Ciara Moloney, and the experienced Emily Manton (nee Hayden) at full forward.

The Moyle Rovers team includes three minor All-Ireland winners with Tipperary this year in Ava Wall, Eabha Dolan, and Ellie Franklin. They will also look to captain Laura Grace, Hazel Brennan, and Ava Collins to lead their charge on Saturday.

Both teams look well strong up to make the step up and compete at Junior ‘A’ next year but on Saturday there can only be one winner.

Junior ‘A’ Final

Holycross/Ballycahill v Lorrha @ 3.00pm

Beaten finalists in 2023, Holycross/Ballycahill, like Moyle Rovers, are back looking for success. The team has been boosted by the return of Lorna O’Dwyer from her travels and the panel as a whole longs stronger this year with Izzy Carr, Alison Fitzgerald and Sophie Lee all making a big impact when introduced in their semi-final win over Kiladangan.

Standing in their way of a possible county title on Saturday is Lorrha, who won the Junior ‘B’ title in 2021 and are appearing in their first ‘A’ final since 2013. It took a titanic battle against Gortnahoe/Glengoole on Saturday evening to book their place in the final.

To come out at the right side was a huge morale boost for Lorrha and they will be buoyed by this going in Saturdays final. Their star player is Clodagh McIntyre, and the Tipperary senior player will certainly need stopping if Holycross are to prevail. Caoimhe Kennedy at centre back and Elaine Hogan in attack are other key players.
