Testing the water in Spain

Eleven members from Nenagh Triathlon Club and Nenagh Masters Swimming Club travelled to Spain to take part in the Cadaqués Annual Marnaton Swim, a renowned open-water event.

Cadaqués, a stunning coastal town in the province of Girona, northeastern Catalonia, is known for its scenic beauty and Mediterranean charm. The Marnaton Swim combines the challenge of competitive open-water swimming with breathtaking surroundings, offering various race distances to suit swimmers of different levels, including 6.5km, 4.5km, and 2.5km.

The race day brought challenging conditions, with choppy waters testing participants’ endurance. However, the event was expertly organised, with a strong emphasis on safety. Lifeguards, kayakers and boats accompanied swimmers along the course to ensure everyone’s well-being.

In preparation for this event, most of the training took place in Lough Derg over the summer, with some swimmers completing routes such as Youghal to Garrykennedy (5km), Youghal to Dromineer (5.7km), and Castlelough to Killaloe (10km).
